This page is intended to improve communication on status of projects that we are currently working on. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Aurora Memorial Library and City Hall Landscaping

The parks staff has completed most of the landscaping renovations and improvements for both the Aurora Memorial Library and Aurora City Hall.

The small circular patio to the east of the main entrance has been replaced with new patio stone. In mid-August, we will replace the main semi-circular pavers in front of the main entrance.

Walker Building Patio

The patio project for the Walker Building has been approved. Artistic Design Homes, Inc. will be removing a window and constructing a door in July. After the door construction is completed, we will then prepare the patio area for concrete and pour in August. After the concrete is placed, we will then add the stone for pillars and walls that surround part of the patio and add furniture.

Kiwanis-Moore Park Improvements

Retention Basin
The basin is completed and the 2 remaining items are planting trees along mound in early Fall as well as installing the split rail fence next the new field #6 when it is completed.

Field #6
This new softball field will be located next to field #4 and the retention basin. Construction will begin in mid-July and should be completed by the end of August.

Additional Playground Equipment
2 new climbing rocks will be added in mid-July. One rock is for 2-4 year olds and one is for 5-12 year old children. We will also be adding playground edging and mulch surface material after the rocks are placed.

Plazas
We will be adding stone plazas in August. One will be located by fields #3 and #4 and one will be by the elft field corner of field #5.

Varsity Softball Field
We have submitted a permit request to the US Army Corps of Engineers to allow the construction of a new softball field next to field #5 and across from the AHS Veterans Stadium. Construction will fill-in less than 1/10 of an acre of wetland which the US Army Corps of Engineers will review and hopefully approve the plan which we are awaiting approval. If so, then a cost estimate and design will be prepared and hopefully approved to begin construction in September 2008. We would like to have the field ready for the spring 2009 season. This field would be a city field but would be the home for the AHS Varsity Softball team with a similar design as the neighboring baseball field.

Sunny Lake Park Improvements

Lake Water Restoration
We have completed the nuisance fish eradication and the lake is returning to its natural level. Vegetation has also grown along the shores which will help with shoreline stabilization. We will hopefully re-stock the lake with fish such as bass and blue-gill in late August. The water quality will be monitored over the next few years to see in additional measures need to be taken to improve the water quality and eliminate contamination of the Chagrin River.

Additional Playground at the North End
The new playground has been installed and is a great addition for the park!

Sanitary Sewer Extension and Pump Station
The City of Aurora Engineering Department is currently working on this project to extend sanitary sewer down East Mennonite Road to Sunny Lake and install a pump station at Sunny Lake. Timeframe is set to approve the design firm by the end of May with construction bids in the late fall and construction in 2009. This sanitary sewer project will allow a new boathouse to be designed with improved restrooms as well as a concession stand and restrooms to be eventually added next to the ballfields.

Exisitng Boathouse Septic System
The existing septic system with the outlet pipe that led to Sunny Lake has been closed. The restrooms are currently closed as we are finalizing plans to replace the existing septic tank with a 2000 gallon tank that will be a temporary holding tank until the sanitary sewer line construction is completed in summer 2009.
